I really don’t like discussing politics in depth publicly because often people are ridiculed as being hard “left or right”… meaning: political extremists. Seems folks can’t help getting all worked up when they disagree with someone else politically. Rather than attacking the issue, they attack each other. Guess it’s a sign of the times… Yet, as I study history maybe it’s always been this way. Anyway….
This recent insight that I overheard is just too shocking not to blog about.
I watched a little bit of the Frontline special on PBS the other night. It was a look at the careers of B. Obama, and J. McCain and their paths to the White House. I watched as narrator discussed how the outgoing congressman, Tom Daschle, supplied his veteran staff to Obama.
Tom was shown making several comments about how he was trying to help guide Obama’s congressional career, and ultimately Obama’s run for the White House.
Then Tom made what at first seemed a very odd statement… then, after digesting the comment I find it… well… quite DISTURBING.
He spoke of how he had counseled Obama and his team to make a run for the Presidency ASAP… because (paraphrased) “the longer he is in Congress the more history he’ll have. And, the more his opponents can pin him down to positions because of his voting record.” Tom inferred that Obama needs to be a “blank slate” to the general public.
Is this not the height of deceit? Isn’t Daschle saying that for a candidate to be successful they SHOULD NOT LET THE PUBLIC KNOW WHAT THEIR TRUE CONVICTIONS ARE…?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you hide who you really are and what you believe in????
This truly blows my mind. What is going on in Washington?
